Still alive

By JonTuesday - October 6th, 2009Categories: Uncategorized

Just a quick post to prove that I’m still alive. I’ve got the line art done for the next comic. Now I just need to scann & color it. On a related note, I’ve picked up the man-cave a bit so I should be able to actually get to the PC that I use for such things. It’s by no means super clean in there but I can get around now, so that’s good.

I think I’m going to have to force myself to go in there every night after work. Not just to work on my artwork & such but to also make sure the room gets and stays clean. It was looking pretty good ’till I met a new friend at PAX who went by the name of H1N1. I stayed out there until I was better & that created a bit of a mess. The fact that the room is pretty much a dumping/storage place for anything we’re not sure what to do with doesn’t help either. We really need to make a dump run.

Amanda pointed out a local place for recycling PC & electronic stuff so maybe we’ll be able to swing by there too. We were given a TV that must weigh 400 to 500 lbx a while back & it’s starting to go. I think it may be time to get rid of it along with the couple of old computer cases, mother boards, etc. that are just sitting around.

I’ve been told that I need to check out Vector Magic. It’s something that I’ve heard of but never played with. I think I’ll see if they’ve got a trial version or something that I can play with. I really am interested in working with software that uses vectors. I just need to get past the fact that it feels like the art equivalent of math.

More gallery stuff & random thoughts

By JonWednesday - March 11th, 2009Categories: Uncategorized

Okay, so I’ve finally gotten a bunch more in the gallery. It’s pretty much all sketches. I’ve got to remember to grab some of the other stuff & add it from my PC at home. I just never seem to think about it while I’m there. I’ve also redone the gallery a bit so the thumbnails are arranged in a table rather than one looooooong column. I’m realizing that I don’t have many examples of anything other than character design. I’m gonna have to rectify that sometime. Do some landscape & life drawing or maybe find some examples of stuff I did a while ago.

I got my bonus from the day job recently. I think I’ll be picking up Illustrator with it. I’ve downloaded the trial & will be playing with it soon. For $599.99, I want to be sure I’ll like it. I’m fairly sure I will already. I also picked up a couple of movies for the kids, a PSP w/ a couple of games for myself (eeee!) and a guitar w/ case for Amanda so she can learn with Julia.

Speaking of the PSP. It took a while, but it’s finally got enough good games for me to justify buying one. Sony has really done a lot right with this impressive little piece of hardware. If only they’d supported it with GAMES in the first couple of years. They really seem to have the same problem with the PS3. It’s kinda sad too, ’cause I really like how they’ve handled the connectivity between them and the fact that I can purchase & download certain PSP games online instead of buying the UMD is sweet. Even so, it’ll take a few more good games & another price drop or two for me to be comfortable with spending the money on a PS3.

Also, I won’t go into details yet, but I’ve been working on a strategy board game for a while now & the basic form of the game seems to be coming along very well. My goal is to have a production quality setup done in the coming months & shop around for someone to publish. I think I’ll be starting my little search with Steve Jackson Games.

So… Does anyone know anything about copyrighting & board games?
